Boy Meets Boy

Alemania — 2021

Following on from films where the city is both scenario of, and witness to, an ephemeral encounter (for example, the couple wandering around Vienna in Richard Linklater’s 1995 film Before Sunrise), Spaniard Daniel Sánchez López conceived his first feature film as an ode to Berlin. The European city - where the director lives - is a huge set in which Johannes and Harry, two gay guys who have the clock against them, meet. After meeting at a party where Berlin’s underground techno animates those who brighten up the dance floor, Harry has 15 hours to spare before getting on a plane to return home. The plan is as follows: to walk around the German capital, chat and enjoy each other´s bodies. The attraction between the boys, reminiscent of recent films like Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me by Your Name (2017) and François Ozon’s Summer of ‘85 (2020), reaches soaring heights when Johannes and Harry confront each other, sharing their inevitably different worldviews.
